Total Annihilation animation

With my friend Tane we made an army stop motion animation. We aimed to make 1000 slides, but we ended it at almost 500 and decided to make a sequel. It was so good that we might make it into a trilogy.  Here is the first one called Total Annihilation. Let me know if you like it.

Court Perimeter

For maths Room Five had to find out the length, width and perimeter of our court.  First we did an estimate by saying every two steps was a metre and we walked around the court. Then once we had our measurements of our width and length we added them together and timed them by two. Then we used the metre sticks to get the exact measurements and did the same thing. After that we made a Google drawing to show what the length, width and the perimeter of the court was. The perimeter of a shapes is the measurement of the outside of the shape all around. Here are my measurements.

Stop Motion Animation

Room Five was learning how to make a stop motion animation. When we made one we had to do it about a kiwi and make it get bigger and smaller as it goes up on the page to make it look like it was going away. I found it hard to find transparent backgrounds for my animals. I added in an animal and something else. Hope you enjoy my 261 slide stop motion animation.

The Titanic

Room Five has been learning about the Titanic which sank at sea. It was a huge boat and it was also a luxurious hotel. We made a slideshow about it. I chose to write as if I was a survivor and I wrote what had happened in a journal. Here is my slideshow.

Pet Day Writing

At Awahono School we were planning for Pet Day by making our Pet Day projects which was essential for that special day. In this part of writing I have said how I take care of my pet.  If you think I should put it in a slideshow then you can tell me. Here is the writing. Hope you enjoy it.

How I Look After my Pet

Introduction
At my house I have a pet guinea pig called Crystal. Every day I check up on her to make sure that she is safe and healthy. We got Crystal because my last guinea pig ran away into the bush.

Feeding
Crystal has a variety of food because she likes all fruits, vegetables and grass. In the morning and afternoon I give her a type of cereal that she will squeak her head off for. We have to move her three times a day because all the grass in her pen is devoured in hours. If Crystal is hungry she will squeak very loudly so we can hear her from inside the house and when she does that we give her carrots or some apples, but sometimes we give her a pear for a treat.

Protection/Routine
Crystal’s pen has an open roof to let in sun, so she is in danger of an aerial attack from the falcon especially after it just had three plus babies! Even though she is brown all over, she is still very easy to spot from above. Our schedule for Crystal is pretty much always different, sometimes we don’t need to do anything except feed and move her, but other times we could do fifteen things a day for her!
Baths and Grooming
Crystal and the other guinea pig are not very fond of baths and Crystal hates it the most because, even before we put her in she will squirm and squirm trying to get away. We put them in a small, wide container that we fill with warm water. After we take them out and dry them off by the fire I get out the brush and try and give her a nice massage. I don’t try to make Crystal’s fur straight because her’s is the type that is always scruffy.

Exercise
I do not need to give Crystal exercise because she will run around her pen about three quarters of the time. Sometimes she will also play chase with the other guinea pig. We have put in a ramp so that she will also climb that too. My brother made a nice tunnel which Crystal walks through every morning.

Fears
Crystal has a fear of rain so we bring her inside and put her into a big, but shallow, empty pool. When it starts to rain heavily Crystal will squeak so loudly that her ears flop up and down. Another fear that Crystal has is the weka which we have nicknamed Peepers. Peepers would circle around Crystal’s pen and take quick nips through the bars.

Pet Day

On the third day back from the term break Awahono School had Pet Day.  On Pet Day everybody brings their pet to school for one day. On that day we also have fun by doing activities and a pet parade where you walk your pet around the court. Here is my slideshow about Pet Day. I hope you enjoy it.

Pet Day

Room five has been getting ready for the Pet Day which we will have in term four. We prepared by making our pet day project  and part off that was my persuasive writing. In my persuasive paragraphs I explained why a guinea pig is a good pet. When I finished I put it on a slideshow. Hope you like it.

Writing Reflection

Room 5 has been learning about writing a refection about our work. A little while a ago we wrote a report about a native animal so we wrote our reflection about that. Here it is, hope you enjoy it.

We are learning to reflect on our learning.  To help me write a successful report in a group, usually one or two people in the group research on different sites to get it done quicker. Sometimes I don’t know what to write because I have taken the best ideas out in the earlier sentences. What I liked about working with buddies and writing a report is having time with my friends and doing a report about nature at the same time. It was a bit difficult because I sometimes got distracted by the group and had to keep getting them on track. I could research a it more before I write the report.
I preferred to work with a group because you can research quicker and get work done faster. The good thing that happened in the group was that a lot of the group, including me, worked relentlessly. A flaw was that one person in the group would get stuck frequently. Maybe next time I could help anyone that needed it with every spare moment I have.

Sea Dives Stop Motion Animation

On Wednesday 6th of September Room 5 made stop motion animations. A stop motion animation is when you make a slideshow and you show a little story by duplicating the slide then moving the character a bit to make it really look like they are moving. Because of this it usually takes up a lot of slides. We could choose any topic to do it on so I chose to make mine about diving in the sea. Here is my stop motion animation slideshow about diving in the sea. Hope you enjoy it.

Fractions

In my maths I gave been learning about fractions so I created a slideshow about it to show my learning.
I made a DLO with Solly so that I could work faster. In this DLO we have made a fraction of a set and to show it we made a diagram and a problem.  Here is Google drawing that Solly and I made.

Pompeii

In our info-bytes we have read about Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius. In my group in reading we made a DLO google drawing about Vesuvius and what sights, sounds, smells and feelings we would have had if we were a normal citizen in the city when Vesuvius erupted. We also added what people could touch Here is the finished product.

Fun Run

On Friday term three Awahono School held a fun run. In the fun run we ran around the school in the morning and played games in the afternoon. After the fun run we thought it would be a good idea to write about it so we wrote a report about it. When we were finished with the writing, we put the words on a slideshow with pictures of the fun run. Here is my one.

Kakapo

In room five we have been learning about the kakapo so that we could write a report about it. We researched our the kakapo by using links that our teacher had put on a slide for us and then we put the ideas on a padlet. Then we made plans for the writing we were going to go to write. We all made our own report which I then put the writing on a slideshow. Here is my one.

Collaboration learning

In Room 5 we have been learning about collaboration which means working with others, so we made a DLO about it. I worked with Deakyn when I worked on a Google drawing about how to be a collaborative worker. When we thought of some ideas we divided them into good side and bad side. Hope you enjoy it.

My Magic Box

In Room 5 we have been working on poems so we worked on a poem called the Magic box by Kit Wright. Everyone in Room 5 made their own and in them we put anything that could not really fit in a magic box. Here is my one, hope you like it.

My Magic Box
I will put in the box
the clanging of a colossal dragon's claws against a knight’s cold, clean armour,
The foul stench of a burning shark in the ocean,
the shine of the moon upon a newly born angler fish.

I will put in the box
the roar of a rare raptor on a rageful hunt,
the taste of the salty sea wave on a scorching day,
a tooth of an ancient ornithomimus, biting a gator.

I will put in the box
the eering screech of a bald eagle on a morning flight,
the smell of a hot dog hidden inside a pickle,
a minnow in a flying washing machine.

I will put in the box
a fleshy hand from an old preserved caveman,
the sound of a jaguar growling at another jaguar in its territory,
the sound of a noodle playing a trumpet on a spoon.

I will put in the box
the flame of an old European dragon,
a sneaky spider that has a spooky skull on its spinneret,
the taste of very hot plastic that burns heaps of plastic.

I will put in the box
the spicy smell of the fog from Mercury,
a spell that makes you like veggies,
the sound of a balloon popping under immense heat.

My Alone Poem

In Room 5 we were working on writing poems and learning about them, so we read a poem from Gregory Harrison called "Alone in the Grange." After we read his poem, we wrote our own, we even got to choose the character and setting! Everybody in the class wrote their own and here is mine. Hope you enjoy the video at the end.

Granite

Scary,
Scary,
Is the fearless wolf,
Who prowls the grasslands for food.

Fast,
Fast,
Is the wolf as he rushes past all his surroundings,
Whose vision makes rocks, trees and grass vanish in a flash.

Fierce,
Fierce,
Are the wolf's long white teeth,
Which pierce his unlucky catches.

Feared,
Feared,
Is the wolf by all the animals,
Which wait for his next strike.

They say that he hides in the shadows,
As the bats screech and flutter.
The animals know to stay away,
Because he is known to kill all his prey.
They call him a beast,
A big hairy monster.
Is he a fearless young wolf as everybody thinks?
Or is he a lonely grey wolf who is always hungry.

How to solve your problems with Miro and Jackson

When Harold came to Awahono School he taught Room 5 about being making the problem bigger or smaller. When we got back to the classroom we had a talk about what Harold said. After we did that Room 5 paired up with a year five child with a year four child to do a screencastify together. My buddy was Jackson and here is our video.

Name Art

In term one Room 5 was learning how to do good patterns. First we wrote our names in bubble lettering then we coloured them in, then we drew patterns all around the letters with vivid. Every pattern that we did had to at least have two elements. We all did our own and here is my one, hope you enjoy it.

I am...

Room Five has been working on poems in term 2. First I had a brainstorm on a piece of paper of the things close to me then I wrote them in this poem. I hope you like it.
I Am
I am the brother who likes to grow my hair long.
I am the son who loves to help bake things with my Mum.
I am the vegetarian who hates all meat.
I am the chicken feeder who makes sure the chickens have enough food.
I am the fisher who likes letting my catches go after I catch them.
I am the animal lover who loves almost all the animals I meet.
I am the reader who spends a lot of time in the library when I can.
I am the helper who does heaps of chores at home.
I am the runner who jogs around at my house

I am Miro.

Lang’s Snowy Drive

In Room 5 we have been learning to describe a setting and introduce a character to the setting. We have been given a picture and we had to describe it and put a character in it. We have each done our own, and here is mine.

Lang’s Snowy Drive
As the plain  yellow car slowly drove through the snow the road got more slippery as it went. It was winter in America and a very cold one at that. Even though the doors were thick the driver and passenger could still hear the blizzard wind howling outside. Lang was gazing at the snow rushing past the car window as he counted every second until they get there.  Lang was a teenager, fourteen to be precise and he was in college. He was feeling bored because nothing had happened for two whole hours. He was looking forward to go ice skating on the lake and by every second passing he got more and more excited because they would soon  arrive.
